Great Hearts does not accept early kindergarten students—i.e. all kinder applicants must be 5 before Sept 1st.
Great Hearts believes this policy to be in the best interest of our schools for a number of reasons:
1.Kindergarten Readiness testing does not accurately assess social and emotional readiness.
2.A class comprised of a handful of younger students will negatively affect the entire class, and experience has shown that this impact worsens with time.
3.If a child that does not meet minimum age requirements is accepted to our school and does not pass Kindergarten, our school will not receive funding for their second year of Kindergarten.
Although your child will turn 5 before January 1, we at Archway Chandler have a strict policy of not admitting young Kindergarten children. If you choose to send your child to a different KTGN next year, you will not be able to apply at Archway Chandler until your child is ready to attend second grade.
Admittance of young First Graders
Archway Chandler does not accept early first grade students—i.e. all first grade applicants must be 6 before Sept 1st. We are supported in this by State Statute 15-821 C which states:
A child is eligible for admission to first grade if the child is six years of age. A child is deemed six years of age if the child reaches the age of six before September 1 of the current school year.
Archway Classical is a state-chartered public K-5 school offering a classical liberal arts education that will prepare students to enter a Great Hearts Academy in middle school. Archway Classical is the first truly classical Core Knowledge primary school in Arizona. Each student will be provided with a durable foundation in Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Geometry, Science, and Social Studies, in addition to meaningful and substantive work and play in Spanish, Fine Arts, P.E., and competitive chess.
The Chandler campus of Archway Classical is located on the same property as Chandler Preparatory Academy at 1951 N. Alma School Rd. However, the Archway campus is distinct from the Chandler Prep campus, with a separate entrance, administration, and student area.
The mission of Archway Classical is to develop the academic potential and virtuous character in each student through the use of a content-rich, rigorous curriculum, with a special emphasis on the cultural heritage of the Western Civilization.
